The Coldwater Ohio Kiwanis Club was chartered by Kiwanis International in 1969 and includes over 65 active men and women. We meet at 7:30 a.m. at Pla-Mor Lanes the first Tuesday of each month and at Coldwater UMC at 11:30 a.m. on the 3rd Tuesday.
Janie Timmerman, representing the St. Anthony Dinner Theater, was the guest speaker at the June 21 meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Coldwater. Janie said that after 23 years of producing a play and dinner multiple times during the Christmas season, it was time to make a change. The group has decided to no longer produce a play. Janie spoke of the challenges the group has faced over the years. On one occasion, the electricity went out just before the dinner was to be served; on another, two main characters got sick during the show; and one year a tornado blew through the area. In spite of such things, the St. Anthony Dinner Theater has given over $1,000,000 to needy families during its run. Janie said it was rewarding to see the volunteerism and generosity of the community and it was sad to experience some of the family situations where help was needed. She recounted some of the various ways that help was provided – purchase of vehicles, funding re-modeling to make homes handicapped accessible, paying funeral expenses, and assisting with medical bills, to name a few. St. Anthony Dinner Theater will continue with the fund-raising aspect of their mission and will continue to assist families that need help. Materials and equipment that were used for various productions through the years will be auctioned October 8 at the St. Anthony School. ... See MoreSee Less
